Marble relief from the Umayydian palace Chirbat al-Minya in Israel, 8th century AD  (H. 29 cm, W. 50.3 cm)

For the exhibition "Early Capitals of Islamic Culture" in the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization (September 15, 2014 - January 31, 2015) the marble relief from Chirbat al-Minya (Ta 2002) newly restored.

The old plaster supplements were already damaged in several places. In addition, the execution hardly corresponded to modern aesthetic demands.

In order to make the relief suitable for exhibitions again, the following measures were taken:

  • Complete removal of the old plaster supplements and the metal frame

  • Dissolve all old bonds with acetone and clean the surface

  • new bonding with 50% Paraloid B 44 in acetone

  • Completion of the cracks on the level

  • Completion of the larger areas below the level with a modified hard plaster

  • total retouch of the small fragments with Lascaux acrylic paints

  • neutral retouch of larger additions with colors from Paraloid B 72
